No matter what I do, I notice that after a few days (especially in the rarely used cloakroom) the cold taps build up a black gunge that nothing seems to prevent or dissolve. I'm guessing it's a mould of some sort ?
The worst is the shower head. Really needs a new one.
Any suggestions on tackling it ?
HG Mould Spray, or multiple applications of cheaper Bleach.
Black mould appears in areas of high humidity, especially here in Cornwall. Solutions are regular spraying with HG mould spray, as suggested by AC (by the smell of it, it contains bleach, but seems to be effective for longer than plain bleach so may contain something else. You can get a foaming version that penetrates a bit further into awkward corners). I've never tried BAC50 benzalkonium chloride indoors, but it's claimed to be an algaecide, bactericide and fungicide, and certainly works quite well on green mould on shady house walls outside, and seems to be effective for months. Improve the ventilation if you can.
Mould spray is dilute bleach.

plus caustic soda.
bleach contains that anyway. It's produced by the same reaction, it destroys biofilms & some dirts, and provides a pH buffer to keep bleach safe in case of limited acid contact.
