Aqualisa power shower pressure switch failed this morning

Our Aqualisa power shower pump pressure switch failed this morning. That is it failed 'on' so that even though the shower was turned off the pump continued to run.

My temporary solution was to turn off the electrical power to the pump except when the shower was actually on, on the grounds that it's not a good idea to have a pump running with no water flow through it. Was I right or would no harm be done?

Looking to get a replacement I blew the layer of dust off it so that I could read the label - hmmm Type 1.

A short while later when my wife had finished her shower the pressure switch turned the pump off - so it's working again!!

Is this how these things fail? Gradually becoming intermittent? (if so I think I'll get a replacement in now and replace it at a time of my choosing), or could it just have been a bit of from the water tank in the loft causing the switch to stick?

No harm would be done immediately. Prolonged running is a bad idea, because of the high backpressure, it can be very stressfull and wearing on various parts of the pump.

I'd be informing wife of what to do if it does that, and looking up where to get the switch, and noting down the details if it does it again, and seeing how it goes.
