Sort of from my previous post.The smart meter man said my cutout was overheating and wanted it fixedbefore proceeding. Said it was leaking pitch or whatever. Called out UKPower.They said nothing wrong. But would fit a new one anyway. Incoming cable isgawd knows how old.Just looking at it today, the new earth strap has a black liquid which hasdripped onto it. Looks to be from the new cutout or feed cable (the end ofthe feeder is sort of taped up and don't intend poking it) Pretty wellwhat the smart meter chap complained about.I'll phone UK power up. I'd be surprised if the peak load here everexceeds 20 amps or so at once. Apart from lighting etc, only high loadsare the immersion (not used in ages) an oven, and washing machine andkettle. And the oven and washing machine pretty well never used at thesame time.

That myth has been blown away. The variation is due to how that glass was made, not due to it oozing over time.

On top of the lead was hessian, which is then dipped in pitch. I made a few of those off, in my early days.
