The "math" module is still mostly borked - it relies on an external site to do some of the work and that seems to be not working most of the time now.



Historically its been a massive PITA to get everything needed for math rendering installed all on site - hence the reliance on the external site - however that is supposed to be changing with the next version of MediaWiki (released next month). So with a bit of luck it should be fixed and working better than before shortly.


Yes, the "Sizing a cable" page looks ... interesting.

Yup, alas there is no graceful fall back other than looking at an earlier edition of the page before it had the math markup added.

(on that particular page, that would probably be ok, since not much has changed or been corrected since IIRC)

I've always avoided using it, can't say it's been a real difficulty

One can survive without, but stuff looks better with. Much the same applies to diagrams in ASCII art that have been replaced with proper drawings - the former were understandable, but the latter create a better overall impression and are much quicker to make sense of generally.
