I have never, ever, found an electric toaster that, reliably, makes decent toast. They all do one (or more) of the following:-
If set for first slice OK the second slice is burnt * Aren't big enough for real world loaves * Are hopeless when the type of bread changes * etc.
I simply stick the bread under the grill and watch it until done right, much more reliable.

wasbit will post for himself but they are extremely rare in our house. Two 8o ish adults so now limited to grand children weekend visits. I think cost and food fads mainly but I am not the caterer.

Mine does up to four at once and they all come out the same.
How big do you want? I toast burger buns in mine.
Cheap white bread is the only type that makes good toast.

If I did a Sunday roast, I would still be eating it come the next Sunday. It is nor possible to roast properly a one person sized joint.

I hardly ever do more than one at a time and when I do, its normally the last of the loaf that I have made in my bread machine and so the two slices are not identical, in fact far from it because I prefer what I used to call toast with bread in the middle when I was a little kid. The slice so thick that it will barely fit in the toaster with a toaster which will take the thickest toast I can find.
That's bullshit. The multigrain I make in the bread machine makes brilliant toast. Which is just as well given that I eat the entire loaf as toast for breakfast except for the end dome of the vertical loaf which I have as a massive great open sandwich with slices of cold roast lamb, relish and lettuce for the main evening meal every time I make a new loaf every 4 days. The frequency is a bit high, I would prefer every 6-7 days but thats how it works out given I require a massive great thick slab toast for breakfast every day.
The real problem I have is finding a toaster that toasts both sides of the toast to the same brown. Not clear if that's because of the massive great slabs of bread I toast or what.
F*ck that, too much farting around and you have to do each side seperately.

Yes, so I still have roasts, but have a new one when the previous one has been consumed.
I mostly do legs of lamb and after the first meal, cut the full leg of lamb into 3 pieces and put them in the freezer and then eat them after defrosting them first. Mostly on the massive great open sandwich I have every 4 days for the evening meal but also one meal of cold roast lamb with a roast potato and relish and beans and corn.
Yes, but trivial to eat most of it as cold cuts.

That was my main reason for getting an air fryer. I couldn't do a proper roast with just a microwave and a George Foreman type grill (but by Towergate, not GF). But I can now!

Smaller joints are available, and anyway, I like beef sandwiches :-)

not a toasting fork over an open fire....

It’s Rod. He’s just never heard of fan ovens (or is just trolling).

I actually have one, f****it.

I know that, but you need a big joint to get the right flavour.

Toasted multigrain tastes like cardboard to me.

And cheap white bread doesn't ?

Ah, in that case we've had it! I don't think I've eaten a slice of white bread (cheap or otherwise) in years.

Well I cooked myself one last Sunday. Admittedly I'm in France just now (just for a few days) and the joint was half of a piece of pork of a type I haven't come across in the UK. Cooked in a roasting tin along with the potatoes it was excellent. I'm going to cook and eat the other half this evening (i.e. a Wednesday roast!).

It is terrible stuff to eat as bread but, IMO, it is the only bread to make proper toast with.

Nope.

Does for me. I flew back from the state capital after the heart stent after the heart attack and didnt have any of the multigrain I always use for toast given that I had been in hospital for a couple of weeks waiting for the stent and had to use a loaf of cheap white bread for the toast for breakfast rather than wait for 3:40 mins for the bread machine to make a proper multigrain loaf and realised why I had given up on cheap white sliced bread for toast.

It is. You just have to order a small joint or eat a partridge or two. Poussin are pretty good. Two meals on those.
Mind you there isnt much difference between a person sized bit of meat and as steak...
