Clarke’s 302b bench press drill pop/flash then died (2023 Update)

I have a large heavy Clarke’s multi speed pillar drill which worked well for a year or so. Moved to a new home a year ago and left it in the garage floor. Set it up this weekend, plugged it in - a bit damp but not wet. Hit the on switch and it popped, an electric flash just under the pillar box near the chuck spindle and now it won’t power up at all - the plug fuse is fine so are there any internal Fuses please?

It sounds like there may be an issue with your Clarke's 302b bench press drill. The popping and flashing you described, as well as the fact that it won't power up at all, suggests there may be a problem with the internal wiring or a component in the drill that has failed.

Regarding the internal fuses, it depends on the specific model of your drill, but most drills have some form of internal fuse or circuit breaker to protect the tool from power surges or other electrical issues. These fuses are usually located inside the tool, often near the switch or power cord. It's best to consult your drill's manual or contact the manufacturer to find out where the internal fuses are located and how to access them.

It's not recommended to open up the drill and try to fix it yourself if you are not familiar with the internal components of the drill, unless you have the proper knowledge and tools. It's best to take it to a professional or contact the manufacturer for troubleshooting and repair.

Another thing to keep in mind is that even though the plug fuse is fine, the drill may have been exposed to dampness which may have damaged some internal components. This can be a dangerous situation, as water and electricity don't mix well, so it's important to check for any damage caused by moisture before attempting to use it again.
