HP DC is a *LOT* quieter than my Sears shop vac. When the jointer or planer are making sawdust you can't hear the DC at all... ;-) -- Mark

I really can't think of any reason to use such an acurate straight edge in the shop. Even a cheap 4 foot aluminum level will be adaquet for all jobs.
Here all these years I've been using the stuff around the shop and... huh? NAFTA? oh! sorry... UA100
The shop vac pulled it just fine.

bench plane from an antique shop as well. Then if you have bad tear our you would hand-plane, then scrape, then (maybe) sand. Much faster and lots of fun.
A good blow out with the shop vac put it back into service. Old Guy
