OT: Money Laundering

Since the pandemic started, I've used credit cards/Apple pay rather than cash for my very few face-to-face transactions. But yesterday, I had to pay cash and received change- five bills of different denominations in US currency.

The aftermarket can only copy Apple after Apple ships their stuff. Apple will change their "standard" without telling anyone. There are now manufacturers who supply charge controllers with programmable charging profiles to cover future Apple (and others') products.

Apple Pay might but that AFAIK(*) is, in effect, just moving the RFID/NFC "chip" form a bank card to a phone.

OT: Bizarre mobile phone problem

AIUI apple messenger sends the message to an apple server over t'internet. The apple server then forwards it to the destination. I assume that if the destination is identified by an apple id it stays as apple messenger and if not it gets texted.

Or use apple pay or google pay which are vastly more secure than contactless cards and don't need you to fart about with a PIN at all with apple pay, regardless of the value of the transaction.

Thermometers

Most every thing is made in China, like Apple product. Even my high end AV receiver is made there but QC is strict and nothing wrong with it. Just like old saying "you get what you pay for"
