SBO Fair

x-no-archive: yes

Just back from the annual one day ride down to Santa Barbara. The mountainside was ashen from the fires, some slight ash on the plants, but air quality was better than what we've had here. Driving back I could see huge plumes of smoke rising from the fires that are still burning in Big Sur, the smoke spreading across Salinas. But again, air quality was better than what we've had here. (Ie no smell of smoke at all, unless I've gotten used to it, LOL!)

I had my list of orchids I wanted from the SBOE including one of Wendy's Lc Patronicinii (I think there's too many 'i's in that,*G*), and a few Australian dendrobiums. Andy's had a speciosum var pendactum (again I spelled that wrong but in my defense I've just spent 9 hours in a car.) I got a Den Lynette Banks, a Den Butterstar (may be 2 words in that name) and a few impulse buys: one itty bitty Venezuelan species that will never live and a mericloned L anceps hybrid which I don't really like anceps hybrids and I almost never buy mericlones.... .

I must be getting old. Nothing much captivated my interest. I just got the stuff on my list and got the heck back up here. Now I'll go collapse.

K

BTW there were inspections from 3 different Ag agencies looking for the Light Brown Apple Moth on the day before the Fair opened, so rest assured that the authorities were taking their jobs seriously.
