Pumps are not succeptible to water damage. What do they think the pumps pump?. And the water will only cause a short circuit if someone is dumb enough to run the machine while it's still wet. And again, older Whirlools have a control board, a timer motor and a collection oof switches, on top of the machine, not the bottom 6 inches. I think the same thing is true of new ones too.


The machine I'm asking about has been drying out for 2 years.


Open up the front of the machine, and inspect anything within 6" of the floor, which will include the motor, wiring,maybe the pump motor, and likely the motor control circuit board. Inspecting online parts documentation could help you figure out what parts might be at risk.

It takes less than 30 minutes to remove the front of the machine.

I did not read enough to notice this is an ancient machine.

Motors will suffer from water immersion, in any case.

It has been drying for two years but may have also been corroding for two years.

Agree, it the motor was immersed it is most likely gone, if not, still questionable. I wonder if the motor will even spin by hand.

I just had the back off my Whirlpool Duet to clean the pump filter and it would have to be in over 8 inches of water to do any damage and other than the pump motor nothing under a foot would do any damage at all

I should have tried that.

But optimistic about that. It's crowded in my friend's basement, and of course this machine has only a rear panel, no removeable front panel. I connected the hoses and it sprayed water all over the place, so I can replace the washers that go there, but unless I can bypass the water level thing, it won't agitate or spin until the water gets high enough. And then, if it won't pump the water out, there is no sink in her basement. The hose goes into a tube. She was sort of content to consider the machine worthless. I was the one who said it maybe could be fixed, but I don't want to do all the work it might take.

She's talking about getting a 0.0 pound of launcry mini machine that can be in the kitchen and she wouldn't have to climb up and down stairs to the basement. She's 84 and does go upstairs to her 2nd floor bedroom at least once a day, maybe more.

0.9 sounded so small, but I was confusing it with the pounds that a typical washing machine holds. 9 is not that much less than 12-16, and she lives alone.

So-called AI can be so stupid: A typical Whirpool top-load washing machine can handle 7-8 pounds of laundry per load. For a standard size washer, this generally translates to a medium load, which is about 6 pounds. Large capacity washers might handle up to 16-20 pounds. Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Standard size washer: 12-16 pounds. Large capacity washer: 16-20 pounds. Extra-large capacity washer: 20-25 pounds. Compact washer: 4-8 pounds.

So it says typical is 7-8 which somehow translates to 6, and yet 6, 7, and 8 are only listed for compact, but they are talking about typical which means standard, which they say is 16-20!!! Usually there is no clear numeric evidence if so-called ai is being stupid or not.
