Today it is 93 degrees with a "feels like" of 106. Thanks to Willis Carrier, I'm sitting in air conditioned comfort at my chosen temperature of 77. He came up with electric AC in 1902.
It was very hot outside, on the road with the sun on asphalt, it was 98 degrees. Thanks to Frederick McKinley Jones, my car is air conditioned also. He came up with the idea in 1937.
It was bad enough living up north, many of us could not exist in FL without cooling.
Yikes ! It's May for friggin' sakes. Last year , we, at long last, had a heat pump installed - - mainly for A/C with an option for Spring and Fall heating ... our summer heat issues were exasperated by 1 or 2 inconsiderate neighbours - with A/C and whole house air filtration - leaving their stinking smouldering back-yard fires going _all night_ while we tried to cool our non A/C house .. < cough cough swelter swelter >

Yes indeed. AIUI the population of Florida didn't start to grow until AC became available.
Meanwhile, it was the coldest winter in Baltimore in the 42 years I've been here and it's May 28 and it's 50 degrees out at 9:20AM. I think it was 46 earlier.
Why do they have back-yard fires all night? More than one fire? More than one night? Where exactly do you live?
Back yard fire pits - evening fires -
- you know weenies & marshmallows and pie irons. Some folks have fancy brick ones with stands they can put on to hold big cast iron pots for corn roasts. Mine is just a truck wheel - raised a little on a circle of bricks. Considerate people plan the fire to be all done by bedtime, or douse it at bedtime. Inconsiderate clods will leave it burning with some big stuff and it becomes a dying smouldering smoky fire in the middle of the night. I live exactly where I've lived for over 30 years - in my house. John T.

Nope. I try to be considerate, by tending the fire - a lively little fire of smallish pieces of wood - and using a poker stick to feed-in the end pieces into the center of the hot coals so they burn rather than smoulder. Never burning garbage. John T.
