You could always go to an electrical service or supply store and tell them all of this (that is if you can't find they guy who was last there and keep him informed about your range top situation).

You can get a 30 year mortgage on a new house but the warranty won't be for that long.
You can finance for shorter time. Interest rates were low so I took a 5 year and paid it in 3. My powertrain is 10/100 but the expensive technology is 5/60. I'll buy a new car at the end of 2022 and get a
2023 model. If you want a car to be covered for 100,000 miles expect to pay more for it. To do that they have two options. Use higher quality more expensive parts or, cover the cost of repairs by increasing the cost of cars.
If one prices the cost of the warranty of items in the house it does make sense to put the money in the 'cookie jar'.. You can often buy a new item for the cost of the warrenty over a period of time.
When I bought my house about 15 years ago they were pushing for a home warrenty. I looked over the cost and the added cost of the deductable and found it was not worth it at all.
I was buying a new car one year and they tried to sell me an extended warrenty. I told the sales man that if I thought the car was bad enough to need an extended warrenty I would not buy thaat brand in the first place.
Interest rates are low. I bought a 2017 car as the 2018 ones were comming out at 0% and financed it for 7 years. Could have paid for it, but why do that when the money is making better than 10 , more like 15 % in the stockmarket in my IRA. Last year the wife bought a new car and the rate was just under 4 % at the time. No more than we drive being retired, the number of years run out before the milage.
I agree. Only reason I can think of for buying a warranty is for peace of mind as we all know there are winners and losers but the warranty seller always wins.
Might be more desirable if like medical insurance they came with a high deductible to prevent catastrophic costs then they should be cheap.
Problem today is people expect warranties and insurance to cover all costs and we end up paying through the nose.
What are you calling BS on?
I've had 3 tranny failures in my 50 years of driving:
Honda Odyssey Ford Taurus Chevy Venture
All mileages were between 120K and 150K miles.
Only the Odyssey towed, but it didn't have a transmission cooler which is highly recommended for any generation of Odyssey that will be towing. I take the blame for that one.
Honda just came out with a TSB on 2016-2020 HR-V's to address a software issue related the CVT tranny. Pressure problems, "causing increased surface pressure on the belt leading to a partial or complete breakage as well as possible ring breakage."
Consider a home warranty as opposed to individual warranties on specific items. Something with more broader coverage. That might be worth the price of admission. I believe that options related to deductibles are available.
Worth considering after looking at cost. They do have service call cost but those are not out of line. My biggest unexpected home owners cost was over 2 years ago when I needed a new well and cost me $9,000 out of pocket.
I get junk mail all the time trying to sell insurance for water lines, electric lines, etc. I've owned houses for 55 years and never had those go out on me and if you look at the premium, I'm way ahead. Same with extended warranty on appliances.
You're right, the cookie jar would be overflowing by not buying them.
Most home owners insurance plans are for major expenses like the plumbing floods the house or a fire. It is the warranties that are a big ripoff as you pay about $ 1000 a year for them if they cover very much. Just think of what all you could buy as replacements for that $
1000 every year.
Every one of those car manufacturer 0 % financing "deals" that I have ever looked at - simply took the cash sale price and added the interest over the term of the loan - so to get the 0 % financing you have to pay full list price. John T.
I did not mention the 0 % to start with. I made a deal and when I looked over the paper work they had added about a 3 % finance charge. I told them the TV advertised 0 %. The man said 'you want this deal and
0 %'? Told him I did not need a car while the one I had was 10 years old, it only had about 40,000 miles on it and the only reason I was trading was because of the 0 %. He acted like he did not like it,but took the deal.I always get the deal on a car before I mention how I am going to pay for it. Same as with other things. If the item is discussed like furnature and appliances, I often ask if they will give any off for cash or not. If not, I put it on a credit card as I get 1.5 % or better back. Not much, but if like the $ 1500 or so couch and chair they reduced the price by about $ 30 for cash.
Almost anything under a few thousand goes on a credit card if there is no cash discount to match or better it. Paid off every month. It ammounts for a few hundred a year. Usually enough to pay for the Christmas gifts I get for the family from Amazon.
I am not that good at making deals, but am learning from a friend that has been told he would squeeze a nickle to the buffalo craps.
Somewhat, but some dealers will give a discount but maybe not as much. I see offers of a choice, no money down OR low financing. Same with "$5000 trad in over KBB" One thing you can be sure of, the dealer is going to make a profit.
I'm active on an auto forum. There is a brand new Genesis GV80 SUV and dealers have marked up $5k and more and buyers are happy to pay it they like the car so much. Tiger Woods gave them some good publicity too.
No doubt the dealer will make a profit. It is just how much he desires to make at the time. If it is a car that has been on his lot for a year he may take a lot less or sell it for near his cost. If it is a popular model he may hang on to a car for a long time. I don't know how it is now,but years go the manufactor would often give a dealer a special kick back or hold back if he sold so many cars in a given time.
There used to be an inventory tax so if it was after the middle of December you may get a better deal. Have not looked at KBB ina while but there was about 3 prices listed for the used cars. What a dealer may pay, a privite sale, what you may pay a dealer for and maybe another or two.
I still like the deal my uncle got. He talked trade one day , a couple of days later that salesman was not there and he talked to another about not trading in. The first deal was going to charge him about $ 200 to take his car in instead of giving him some money for the trade. That was when cars were about $ 4000.
Or like my grand-dad ( a skinny guy)or my first boss ( a rolly polly chunk) - who could "stretch a dollar until they could use it for a belt"

Are these the chain drive CVT's? I saw one disassembled on U Tube and all it consisted of was metal splinters.

Negotiate the price first, then the financing. If they ask tell them yes so they think they will be making money off the financing.
Chrysler (now ???) used to sell a lifetime warranty zero deductible for about $1500 when I asked. I talked to one guy who had one and was trading in a 12 y/o Caravan that had all his problems covered, suspension, head, sensors.

The 5k is because the dealer are taking advantage of the chip shortage.
The dealers ARE having problems getting product, the sales lots show it. Another BIG problem is a parts shortage, good parts are hard to come by.
I get them too and I have to chuckle. I have a well that they don't cover and the "service point" on my overhead drop is at the mast head. If that drop fails, it is FPLs problem. It might be worth doing on a service lateral (underground) since that service point is usually at the property line but they don't usually fail unless you hit one with a back hoe.
