All my other was just the simple version. Tax laws in the US are very difficult to know all the fine points, so I use a computer program and hope it is right.

Yes, that $ 3000 is very low now. One year I had a carry over for a couple of years. The stock crashed and did not make very much of a gain for a while. Not enough to offset a loss when a power company went bust. You would think that a power company could not fail, but they did . Should have known to stay out of anything controled by California.

The account is exempt from income tax and capital gains tax on the investment returns, and no tax is payable on money withdrawn from the scheme either.
