Sounds about right. And what we end up with is small numbers each with individual wiring, installation, meter, invertor. Much better if they just completely covered some of the houses and left the others alone.

One might think will all the sun out there they might be economical but an important factor as I am seeing in the thread is where you are located. Panels may be very economical to have in places where prices of electricity are very high like Europe.

I would think a tile roof lasts considerably longer than an asphalt roof. I got a new one last year as old roof was 25 years old and may have gone a few more years but was showing signs of deterioration. If it were faced in part with solar panels cost would have been much higher.

That's bullshit. The regulator and inverter is only a small part of the total cost. There isnt much wiring involved either, the electrical connections between the individual panels is part of the mechanical design.

It seems very unlikely and totally stupid. Starting with the fact that they have a way to meter the electricity you generate, how much goes into the grid. The neighbor in another house? He's just buying electric from the GRID, has no solar system, so how does any of that make sense? Those shared well deals are also well know for big trouble. But you libs like those crazy commune type things, it takes a village to do solar I guess, so have at it.

A local here, has a small ranch. His panels are ground mounted. They articulate and travel as it tracks the sun. He has two. No these but very similar.

Are you telling me that if you generate 1kW and use 1kW, you're still paying 15 cents and only getting 5 back? Surely if it's not giving or taking from the grid, the net money transfer should also be zero.

In the UK the opposite happened - if I generated 1kW and used 1kW, I'd get paid! I got 30p for generating it, but if I'd bought it, it would have cost me 12p. So I earned 30p and also got 12p of free power.

Each house is an individual entity. Some green people might want to pay more for a solar house, and they should want as much as possible. Some might not want any.

Sure, but the buyers of those houses are clearly too stupid to even work out how many panels it should have to be viable there. And too stupid to work out that the money that had been wasted on the solar panels and rain water recycling would have been much better spent on the house itself.
