Venting - HTH/Arch in Canada

Well it had to happen up here eventually.

Walmart is now selling HTH/Arch cal hypo at 47% in a 11.4 kilogram pail, down from 65% last year, and roughly the same price ($56.93 CDN) as last year's 65%. A 38.3% drop.

The 65% is now called "Super Sock It", again from HTH/Arch, and that's only available in a 2.27 kilogram pail at $16.93.

The price for a 1 ppm increase in 10k liters for the crap stuff is $0.1062 compared to $0.1146 for the 65% grade. Hummmph.

Lucky for me I still can get 70% elsewhere.

My unnamed source over at Arch told me they purposely downgraded the chlorine content following requests from Walmart and others. Too much of a fire hazard.

Next to come our Canadian Tire hardware stores will no longer be carrying rope, because there's too much of a suicide risk.

HTH used to be good, now they're going the Biogard way.

Grrr.

It probably is connected to safety problems, especially with untrained staff. I have noticed that Costco stopped selling laundry bleach because it appears to be too much trouble to handle and to clean up spills from dropped and/or leaking bottles.

This has gone on since the crude oil run-up a while back. Anything chemical got much more expensive. Pool stuff, Coleman fuel, etc.
