Norway is an interesting case. 90% of their electricity is hydropower. Green, right? Until you get to their comfortable socialism build on the profits from oil and gas.

Evey gas station I have come across is capable of pumping gas in a power outage. I wonder if they have some interesting method if they do not have a portable generator.

And one can always be hooked up.

Maybe. I was running on fumes when I hit Glenrio NM. I was at the fuel island when the lights went out. No fuel. I didn't think I could make Amarillo so I sat until the power came back on. That was before POS terminals on the pumps. I doubt you'd even get past those now with no power let alone pump gas.

I can't find a definitive list but unless you are in Florida, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey or parts of California I wouldn't bet on it.

So you've visited every gas station in the country? Extrapolating your limited experiences (especially with your abysmal grasp of logic and fact) to the rest of the country is just plain wrong.

Fact is, you're better off in a BEV during an evacuation. They're safer in every way when compared to a rolling fuel-air explosion.

I would think you have a much better chance of finding a station where you can get gas than a working EV charger you don't have to wait hours to use.

The wait times for charging stations coming out of the Chicago area with the cold are more than a day. They are being called "EV Graveyards". Rots-a-ruck in an evacuation.

The marketplace needs to solve this, not the "anointed".

So last week when it was -22 Fahrenheit I'd have to build a fire under the goddam thing? The Toyota was a little sluggish but turned over and started. There's something to be said for 5-20W squirrel piss.

There's a Tesla at work but I decided it was a good time to work remotely so I don't know if he made it or even tried.

0 C seems a real problem. It's -1 C now and will hit -2 overnight. It's supposed to get up to 3 tomorrow but the overnight low isn't supposed to be 0 until next Saturday.

How slow when it's -30 C? This ain't sourthern California.

Pre-conditioning makes a huge difference. Lack of experience and lack of reading the manual is likely much of the problem.

Another article was about a Tesla owner that went by the book and everything functions properly and he checked some of the chargers others had issues with and they worked perfectly.

Remember manual chokes? Some people never caught on how to use them.

Probably even fewer caught on with the atomatic chokes where you press the gas to the floor an let off to set the automatic choke.

Only if they're too stupid to RTFM.

Why? The battery pack has internal heaters.

Right. That require power the battery doesn't have. I like this clause:

"Tesla recommends using Trip Planner to navigate to a charging location for at least 30-45 minutes before arrival to ensure optimal Battery temperature and charging conditions. If the drive to the charging location is less than 30-45 minutes, consider preconditioning the Battery before driving (see Before Driving)."

I guess I'd better take the scenic route.

1) The battery itself can provide power to warm itself. It doesn't take much, unlike actually driving somewhere. It can also warm itself from the power provoided by the charger itself. 2) Don't let it get that low in the first place during the winter months when subject to such cold temperatures. 3) Gas powered vehicles are actually more likely to have problems with cold weather (block heaters some immediately to mind). If you have power for a block heater, you have power for an EV trickle charge or battery preconditioner.

I've never heard of anyone having a block heater on a gasoline powered vehicle here in south central Nebraska. They started as long as the battery was good. This goes back to the days of carburetors. Dad had an 8N Ford tractor with a manual choke, 6 volt positive ground electrical system. It would start in cold weather. Temperatures would drop to single digits but seldom below zero. Diesel tractors would have block heaters. The alternative was to use starting fluid to get them going. But they would usually start if the battery was good without the starting fluid. We had a 2 cylinder Deutz air cooled engine at work to run a portable generator. It would start in the cold if the battery was good. We had jumper cables along just in case.

I've know a couple in New England. Had one on my diesel Mercedes and it was very nice having heat very soon after starting.

Would be nice on a gas car, but remote stating took away the need. Push a button and in a few minutes, car is warm, seats are warm.

How much gas would be saved by warming the block before starting each time you start it after it has cooled? The enriched fuel mixture might be significantly reduced.

It is clear by my average mpg "gauge" that the average goes down fast in the first several minutes of driving.

My guess is that the electricity would cost less than the gas saved.
