Reliable refrigerator?

Probably not. I used to check Consumer Reports for things I know almost nothing about like digital cameras. I found them very uninspiring on topics I did know something about.

Their car tests were particularly annoying. They all ended with 'you would be better off with a Honda Civic.' Or a used Honda Civic if what they were testing was lass expensive that a Civic. iirc for one top end model they concluded you could buy two Honda Civics for that price.

I've nothing against Civics but they pissed on some perfectly good cars to push Civics.

It's like that with my news sources. If an article goes beyond spin into complete unsubstantiated fantasy I tend to discount other reporting in the same rag.

Dunno, My 1997 Prelude is just a Civic in a sports jacket and it has lived with 20 years of abuse and not nearly enough maintenance from me. It is still running strong. I basically just put gas in it and replace the tires when they are bald. Oil changes, yeah every couple years whether it needs it or not. I did buy a belt job since this is an interference motor and I had a bad clutch master cylinder once. God only knows how many miles are on it. The speedo was tricked up when I got it and the 10,000 wheel didn't move for 20,000 miles. Then it clicked over half way and 10,000 miles later it clicked over the rest of the way. It said 69k when I bought it.

Given my experience with Samsung stove, printer and TV I have to call bullshit. I could, of course, be very wrong; it's unlikely that the same factories make stoves and refrigerators. Still, if Samsung has let these items pass QC, why should they be any better with refrigerators?

I do like our LG TV, though. Considerably cheaper than the Samsung POS it replaced. I wish Toyota made refrigerators.

The Frigidaire my DIL just bought matches the measurements we took exactly. Some raters like Frigidaire, others spit on it.

CR also rates stuff higher if it has 'features' they like. Features and convenience are pretty low on my personal totem pole. What I really want is to NEVER have to make (or have made) repairs. I've fixed stuff. I don't like doing it.

I agree, The first thing I want is not to have to make any repairs for many years. I can then choose what features I want. I have bought several Toyotas starting in 1991. No problems except a sensor failed at about 130,000 miles on one. I do dislike that in order to get a V6 I had to get the leather like seats. I hate them , but have learned to live with them.

I don't care for a computer screen on a stove or refrigerator . I just want to store food in the refrigerator.

Our first refrigerator was a Frigidaire, the General Motors version. The company has changed.

Frigidaire was a customer of our in the 1990s and I've worked with their specs, I've been in their plants, made parts for them. But I'd not buy their products. Things have changed again and they are now owned by Electrolux. That may have helped.

Seems many brands have had ups and downs with quality and reliability.
