The Cap Po had 1800 sworn and free access to the SCOTUS police by long standing agreement. There was also the Metropolitan CD Police that Trump had no power over. The problem wasn't a lack of cops or the lack of weapons. It was a lack of leadership.

The DC national Guard serves the government of DC, just like all national guard units serve the state governor. They have to be nationalized to report to the president. Trump could mull all he wants but the democrats on the DC city council (or whomever the convening authority might be) make that decision. It might actually be congress since they have the constitutional authority over the DC government. Home rule changed that somewhat but the Constitution was not amended.

The problem with all of that is it isn't Trump or the DoDs call. The national guard works for the governor of the state. That is why Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne to Little Rock (1958). The governor would not let the National Guard enforce the federal district court's deseg order. The DC guard either works for the DC government or for the US congress. That is the dodge they use to get around posse comitatus.

They had weeks of warning. They didn't do squat. I think Nancy wanted a s*it show and she got exactly what she wanted.

That's bullshit. If they actually have all of this video and they have had 7 months to dissect it, they know all the answers (they being the FBI and whatever other agencies they let in the tent). The real question is what are they hiding and why? My guess is they are protecting the feckless Cap Po who were in way over their heads and they would not ask for help, saying "We got this". One issue is the Cap Po report to congress, (the Sgt at Arms) not justice or anyone else in the law enforcement community. It is a simple DC turf war.
