In my vehicle. Why do you ask?

Mindless bullshit from the Senior Assistant Public Defender of a large city. If you say so.

That assumes they get arrested in the first place. We spent around $50 million to catch some vandals on January 6 but nobody has done s*it to catch the people who caused $13 billion in damages last summer.

Talk about pulling numbers out your ass.

The claims for the riots were close to 1B, not 13B, per fox, which is likely overestimating them.

And in any case, the BLM protesters weren't the rioters, those were unaffiliated criminals that took advantage of the protests, as has been the case since the Harlem riots of the 1960's; there is a thoughtful episode of Mod Squad which addresses this in the context of the day. I'd not be suprised to find republican operatives encouraging counter-demonstrators to show up and disrupt the peaceful protests.

Unlike the capitol insurrection which was a naked attempt to overthrow a legitimately elected government.

No matter what you say, you can't make Apples equal Oranges.

The $13b came from the insurance claims and was more widely reported than just Fox.

One billion sounds like what it cost the various state and local governments.

Funny how you can parse that.

"In fact, the Black Lives Matter uprising were remarkably nonviolent. When there was violence, very often police or counterprotesters were reportedly directing it _at_ the protesters".

"Here is what we have found based on the 7,305 events we've collected. The overall levels of violence and property destruction were low, and most of the violence that did take place was, in fact, directed against the BLM protesters."

"Protesters or bystanders were reported injured in 1.6 percent of the protests. In total, at least three Black Lives Matter protesters and one other person were killed while protesting in Omaha, Austin and Kenosha, Wis. One anti-fascist protester killed a far-right group member during a confrontation in Portland, Ore.; law enforcement killed the alleged assailant several days later."

"Only 3.7 percent of the protests involved property damage or vandalism. Some portion of these involved neither police nor protesters, but people engaging in vandalism or looting alongside the protests."

"In short, our data suggest that 96.3 percent of events involved no property damage or police injuries, and in 97.7 percent of events, no injuries were reported among participants, bystanders or police."

"These figures should correct the narrative that the protests were overtaken by rioting and vandalism or violence. Such claims are false. Incidents in which there was protester violence or property destruction should be regarded as exceptional - and not representative of the uprising as a whole."

"Given that protesters were objecting to extrajudicial police killings of Black citizens, protesters displayed an extraordinary level of nonviolent discipline, particularly for a campaign involving hundreds of documented incidents of apparent police brutality.

The protests were extraordinarily nonviolent, and extraordinarily nondestructive, given the unprecedented size of the movement's participation and geographic scope."

Another idiotic talking point of the republicans goes down in flames.

And in your response, feel free to respond to the facts and the research in the article - part of science is indeed questioning the research.

Don't bother attacking the messenger.

The link to the raw data is right there in the article.

But they are not connected. Totally different jurisdictions.

The Feds are going after the insurrectionists trying to overthrow the goverment.

Local PDs are dropping the ball on the BLM stuff.

I would think it is more like the riots and looting are in areas not effecting the Federal Government. They may have been afraid of their lives and 'house' being destroyed in Washington.

Biden should have just had his double barrel shotgun and fired it up in the air instead of bring in thousands of military.

Actually, no they're not. And as I pointed out in another post, 96.3% of all 7000+ BLM protests had no violence and no looting. Most of the rest of the violence was directed _at_ the BLM protestors, not caused by them. And most of the damage was in Portland which was overrun by white supremecysts.

Facts. Look 'em up.

"Although the provisional government of the [Oregon ed.] territory banned slavery in 1844, it also required all African-Americans to leave Oregon - any black person who stayed would be publicly flogged every six months until they left. Five years later, in 1849, another law was passed forbidding free African-Americans from entering the territory, and in 1857 Oregon adopted a state constitution banning black people from entering, living or owning property in the state. In 1859, when Oregon joined the union ahead of the civil war, it was the only state to explicitly forbid black people from living within its borders."

I didn't notice this line until I read trader taking issue with it. If I'd noticed it, I would have adressed it. Felony murder is a reasonable charge. It's certainly not silly, and though I don't know all the details about any of the crimes committed, my impression is that it should be charged more often.

And you know this how?

And how does this contradict me or Greg?

Did you knotice that the wikip page covers 5 countries or more if Scotland or Northern Ireland are different? And that it covers 46 US states? Do you imagine that you know the law in every one of them? Do you even know the law in Australia where you live?

Even speaking in general the page above is in opposition to the most obvious objection to the situation above, " Jurisdictions that use the "proximate cause theory" include any death, even if caused by a bystander or the police, provided that it meets one of several proximate cause tests to determine if the chain of events between the offence and the death was short enough to have legally caused the death.[3]"

Yes, I was being wry. I would have heard of it and I haven't and I don't think there is any parallel involving mere assualt to felony murder.

Biden was sworn in on January 20th. This year, like most years before it, January 6th came about two weeks before the 20th. If my math is right, Trump was still President on the 6th.

The reason I think it should be charged more often is that I think those who go along with a criminal with a gun are just as guilty as the guy who pulls the trigger.

In very few cases, where it is charged, is it cop or the victim that does the killing. It's usally one of the felons. Who very well might not have even attempted the crime at all if he didn't have someone to go with him**.

They used to have laws that automaticaly added 5 years to a sentence for every crime where the guilty party was carrying a gun. I don't think they do that any more but they should. If criminals left their gun at home, far fewer victimes would be killed.

**Groups do bad things that individuals wouldn't have nerve enough to do. That's a problem with street gangs and with those on January 6. Mr. Clark, my 9th-grade Ancient History teacher said Never be a part of a mob.

They attacked federal court houses in LA, Las Vegas and Birmingham. They tried to burn the one in Portland Oregon. That is just from a quick google search.

That is some diversion you have going on there.

1844, 1857?

Check your calendar, we are talking about 2020.

I stopped talking to that kangaroo f****ng troll a while ago.

The cop who feared for his very life may want to stay out of Portland

As for the weeping politicians, if that's the sort of cowards that are running the country we're in deeper s*it than I thought.

Applying that logic, 99%+ of the Trump stolen election protests and protesters had no violence either. Of course if the Trumpets said that, why you'd have your shorts in a knot.

Most of the rest of the violence was directed

What total BS as anyone who watched the news knows.

And most of

The lib mayor and government there refused to enforce the most basic law and it was the lib rioters that overran the place, even occupied a whole section of town for days, not white supremacists. Plenty of other cities had violence, eg Minneapolis where again, the BLM types invaded the police dept and took it over and the libs ordered the police to let them. NYC had violence too, you think Macy's was boarding up the place just for fun? Police there were blocked from doing their job, when they arrested some lib bitch they caught red handed spray painting security cameras at one of their riots, that dope de Blasio criticized the police for making the arrest. If you libs keep it up, you're going to be losing to the Republicans over this and plenty more. Many Democrats warned that you did poorly in the Congressional election because of all the crazy defund the police BS, but just like the crazy Republicans, your bunch denies reality too.

On Thu, 29 Jul 2021 18:03:48 -0400, micky posted for all of us to digest...

Prosecutors that have a case they want to get rid of use this as a throwaway to get them to plead to the main charges. That's why all these knuckleheads are running around with felony convictions, are out of jail and have guns. I will stop there without a tirade.
