I'd guess a wind up. Ryvita is (allegedly) made from wheat - hardboard from wood. Even although the taste may be similar.

I'd be very surprised - it would seem unneccessarily expensive having an entire production line made food-safe and then use it for making hardboard.

I think it's more a satirical comment on the palatability of hardboard, sorry, Ryvita.

I think you'll find that Ryvita are made from rye, hence the name ...

And I rather like them with peanut butter and cottage cheese.

Agreed and Ryvita gets my vote, but only by a whisker. I find with Ryvita, you don't need to prime with undercoat. One or two coats of emulsion and 'bish bosh' job done.

Matter of opinion. :-) But matzos are often kosher; original Ryvita isn't. (Some varieties are.)

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember tony sayer saying something like:

I wonder if there are any flavours of hardboard that ARE kosher !!!!! Pegboard? Cos it's holy? White Faced? , nope, too racist. Are Ryvita's good for sanding light rust on mild steel plate?, or are they just limited to scraping dried skin off one's heels? Strange that Screwfix don't list them.

Nah - I think hardboard must be treyf. :-)

Some time ago there was discussion (elsewhere, I think) about Bovril and Marmite - I think Marmite couldn't be kosher because a Bovril pipe went throught the factory (or something equally odd). And I'd guess that the hardboard would inhibit the Ryvita from being declared kosher.

And some might hold Ryvita and/or hardboard to be bread and under some circumstances bread has to be prepared by Jews in order to be kosher. So, unless there is a group of Jewish factory workers in Poole...
