OT Wait it out or hope a doctor can help?

OT
AFAIK I barely did anything, was sitting on the side of the bed and just started to get up, moving partially sideways. Maybe I lurched a little.
Is it possible I pulled a muscle in my side? Is it that easy to do?
Is it easier when one is older? 71 y.o. Out of shape.
It's been over 4 weeks and it still hurts. A lot if I move just right. Over the weekend it hurt all over, in a big ring around my body, just above my hips. And I could sometimes feel it half-way up my back too. Could barely move. Spent two days lying down as much as possible. Most of that is gone now, except for the original pain.
Do I need to see a back doctor, or just wait? It takes time to get an appointment and I'm going out of the country in two months, with one big suitcase and one small one. I need to resolve this by then

Ibuprofen helps. Sometimes physical therapy is good to restore muscle tone. Some simple exercises can fix a lot. Being 71 does not help or speed the process though.

See a good massage therapist or osteopath - usually a lot quicker than an MD and they can actually DO something other than give you pain pills.
Mabee try some Robaxacet to relax the muscles and dull the pain.
Alternating heat and cold usually helps too - more heat than cold if no inflamation.
Then GET INTO SHAPE - and not basketball shape ----------

I have heard that ICE is good for sore muscles.

You're turning into a crank, you know that?

It occurs to me you might not understand what makes you a crank. It was stupid enough to harp on the same one or two stupid points when they were irrelevant to political posts. But bring up one of them when the topic is nothing related to politics makes you a crank, "an unbalanced person who is overzealous in the advocacy of a private cause, one who is overly enthusiastic about a particular subject or activity."

I know what you mean. It's easy to get sucked in. Years ago I made the mistake of mentioning that I still had some pain and the specialist gave me another prescription, which I thought was stronger or more suited to what hurt. Even with my drug insurance, it cost 100 dollars, and later my GP said it wasn't any stronger, just a little bit different. I was only reporting that there was some pain, didn't mean to sound like I was complaining. It was a waste of money.

I appreciate your hoping. ;-)

Some doctors take into account what drugs cost, what insurance you have to pay for them, discuss that with you, before writing a prescription. Others just write, maybe in part based on points for a trip to Hawaii. 60 Minutes did a story a few years ago and I learned something new. I knew drug companies were spiffing doctors, giving them trips, etc. But I didn't realize that the drug companies can track what drugs and how much of that drug a doctor is prescribing through the pharmacies. That's how they can track and figure out who gets the trips to Hawaii.
And if it's a new drug and you're not on an insurance plan where it will cost you a known, fixed amount, you can shop around at pharmacies to figure out what the prices are. There is usually a big difference. Here Costco is almost always the lowest cost or at least very close to the lowest. But there are exceptions.

In Brazil they offer free trips to Europe if you prescribe untested drugs. All expenses included. Under the alias of "attending a convention".     The pharmacies get a bribe for collecting the names of the doctors on the prescriptions.     I always avoided prescribing anything that is not tested or expensive.     Wonder why I never got the "prize"?     :)     []'s

See a GP. Muscle pains and small nerve compressions rarely "do a big ring around your body". They are usually only to one side.     The GP will refer you to the right specialist. Could be a slipped disc or even (much less likely) arterial.     HTH     []'s

Yes, it's definitely possible to do, and most likely is a pulled muscle .

I'd say so. I'll be 74 at the end of January and I've had this happen several times. For me it has lasted a couple of months on one occasion.

If I were you I would wait it out a while longer.

I have sspinal stenosis in my lower back and I see a pain managment doctor on a regular basis. When I described the type of pain you describe, my doctor told me it was not related to my spinal condition and most likely a pullled muscle (it doesn't take much). He told me it would gradually go away. I don't remember exactly how long it took, but it did eventually go away completely.

As for seeing a specialist for a yet to be diagnosed pain you are better off to see the family doctor first or their PA. It can take months to see specialists but I can get into the family doctors office on short notice.

I definitely appreciate knowing it can happen so easiy

This is what got me to post. I know infections can spread, and rashes can spread (and cancer can spread) but I'd never heard of muscle pain spreading. But that went away in the last day or two (why I didn't reply right away.) and now it's a clearly identifable spot, like it started out.

Poorly phrased. I could certainly move but lots of positions gave strong pains

Will definitely wait if it keeps getting better, even if it's slow.

I'm sorry to hear that. I see that that comes on often when one is over 50.

Sorry not to answered sooner, but I've been offline for a while. How are you feeling? Has that pain subsided?

Of course we do. Yellow runny shit = malabsorption, white shit = hepatitis or gall track obstruction, black shit = high digestive bleeding, red shit = low digestive bleeding or very serious high digestive bleeding. Or eating beetroot.     Gray shit = your brains.     If you don't believe me, see a shit specialist.     Oh, you were referred to neuroshitologist ?     Good.     []'s

Medicine isn't yet a real science. You guess. Everything has 50 symptoms. You pick an illness that most fits the symptoms the patient gives you. You have no means of doing proper scans to determine the real illness. Even things like MRI scanners can only target specific problems you already suspect.

And indians thought fireworks were magic.     You made your point.     I'd prescribe you a brain laxative, but I confess I'd be guessing the required dose. Not enough data.     Do a full body MRI once a month. It'll probably "catch" whatever it is that's bothering you.     HTH     []'s
