OT Good electric razor?

I had given up on double-edge razors many years ago because they subjected me to the Death of a Thousand Cuts. :-)

The best razor I've found is the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield. It produces a good shave and doesn't cut me.

For shaving cream I like the Aveeno. I seems to lubricate well and it's easy to rinse off the razor. Some other creams get stuck in between the blades and are very hard to rinse out (Cremo seems to be the worst in this respect).

I had tried a number of different brands of electric shavers in the past. Remington seemed like a poor copy of either a Norelco or a Braun.

The foil shavers like Braun or Panasonic worked pretty well, but it seemed like I had to keep replacing the foils a lot. I also had a foil break while I was shaving and wound up with a nasty cut on my chin.

I've had a number of Norelco shavers over the years and they're what I use the most. I currently have an S5550 that I got on sale for $85. It produces a close shave and is pretty fast.

You can dry shave with it or wet shave. I haven't tried wet shaving, but I do rinse the head in water after every shave like the instructions say.

I used to buy the least expensive Norelco shaver I could find. I didn't think that the more expensive ones were any better. The one I have now is a bit fancier than the least expensive models and I do think it shaves better. So I will probably keep on buying models more towards the middle of the price range.

Norelco recommends that you replace the heads once a year. I tend to go longer than that and replace them after about 18 months. Beyond that they seem to not shave as well.

I shave with the Norelco far more often than I shave with the Gillette razor. My "everyday" shaving is with the Norelco. But I kind of enjoy the process of shaving with a blade, so sometimes on a Saturday or Sunday I lather up and use the Gillette razor.

Years ago in the hospital I had a roommate that cut himself with a double edged blade. It broke when he put it in the razor and he did not see it and cut himself and got infected. Allergy to some antibiotics put him in the hospital for a few days.

I always wondered about "stuck in between the blades". It does happen, but does it actually affect shaving?

I think it can if there's a lot of gunk stuck in there. It can get to the point where it's the gunk running across your skin instead of the edges of the blades.

Schick has a twin blade model with a thin plastic blade in between the metal blades to push out the gunk from between them. I used them for a while, but I've found that even a twin blade cuts me more than the newer ones with many blades.

On the other hand, I sometimes wonder where it will end. The New Gillette 5000 blade razor! A blade for each whisker! It's so big you mount it on the wall and rub your face across it. :-)

Thanks for a rational answer. Much cleaning seems to involve an irrational standard (such as a slight change in appearance being a serious problem).
