Remember Trump and Foxconn? This Chinese company was going to build a $10 bil manufacturing facility in WI, it was hailed as the crowning example of Trump bringing all those manufacturing jobs back to the US, that he promised. Well, they went from plans to build large LCD panels, to plans to build small ones, to now, well maybe not building anything at all. Why?
"He said the company was still evaluating options for Wisconsin, but cited the steep cost of making advanced TV screens in the United States, where labor expenses are comparatively high.
"In terms of TV, we have no place in the U.S.," he said in an interview. "We can't compete."
Well, duh?
Now it may become a tech campus with no manufacturing. Next step, it will become nothing much at all. What really happened here? One possibility is that this world class company was so dumb that they didn't realize manufacturing costs are high in the USA. The other is the Chinese govt played Trump again, trying to shyster him into believing that China was going to create manufacturing jobs. And now that he's at open war with them, well, they decided time to end the cover they provided for Trump, that helped prop him up and make him look good.
