OT - Do Fish Like Dirt Bikes? Not A Joke, A Serious Question

I was down at the bay this morning watching the winter activities.

In the shallowest portion of the bay, actually a small cove in the north east corner, there was at least a dozen portable bob-houses and probably

50 people ice-fishing. A typical weekend activity.

Just to west of them, maybe a couple of hundred feet away, but still inside the cove, is the dirt bike and ATV track. A plowed oval on the ice where dirt bikers and ATV riders get their thrills. Another typical weekend activity.

That got me thinking about the fish. Does the sound of the dirt bikes and ATV's bother the fish? Can't they hear the noise and feel the vibrations?

Obviously, based on the ever-present ice fishers, the fish aren't leaving the cove just because of the commotion above, so it must not bother them. Or if it does, there must be something else about the shallow part of the cove that overrides their dislike of the noise. Maybe it's all those worms hanging in the water. ;-)

Maybe the ones that hang around have just gotten used to it like we get used to train horns.

No it doesn't. They can't escape the boats and jets skis in the summer. There is no safe haven.

The noise from the dirt bikes and ATV's is limited to a very small segment of the bay. They have close to 6 square miles of peace and quiet if they want it.

Fine is a relative term. If there's a concert in the park and you get close enough, you'll begin to hear it. If you are inside the concert bowl you are going to hear it much better. If it's too loud, walk away from the source. You'll still hear it fine, but it won't hurt your ears.

If the fish didn't like the noise, one would think that their instincts would have them move to the other end of the bay, where I bet the sound would be much lower.

Obviously some of them aren't moving away because people are ice fishing right next to the noise.

Did you happen to notice that the sound got lower as the ball moved away? I'll bet that if your head was under the water right at the shore, the sound would diminish with each successive bounce.

I heard that ice-fishing leads to prostitution. Some world leader said so. I'm sitting here in my car on a laptop with a separate mouse and keyboard, but only doing the minimum necessary, so if anyone finds out what the world leader said exactly, let me know.

Somewhere in the "underwater world of trout", which I do believe they have on YouTube (I bought the disks), they banged on their scuba tanks to see if noise spooked trout. I do not know if you have ever been underwater when someone banged their scuba tanks, but it is deafening.

Basically, what they found that spooked trout was "sudden movements", especially in the snell circle.
