Odor/taste fromplastic pipes?

My daughter and family have just moved into a new home. She says the water has a chemical odor and taste. One of her children may have been made sick. As far as I know the plastic used for household pipes is very inert. Odor could be coming from joints.

Any opinions or experience? Should she go to the local Health Dept?

Peter.

We recently had a hot water pipe replaced and the chemicals used were more obnoxious than the cold water joints I was familiar with in plastic. The smell was obvious for quite a while. Notwithstanding I doubt she got a significant exposure but no one here can know for sure.

Are you sure it has anything at all to do with the pipes and not the water that is delivered to them? Just because they are in the same city and getting city water, does not mean it is the same water that they may have had before. In addition water supplies often vary throughout the year.
