noisy garage door opener

Dec 30, 2003 1 Replies

I have a master bedroom right above the garage. If i am in the bedroom and the garage door opens it is rather noisey. Its a craftsman door opener. And the noise seems to come from the opener itself. How can i dampen the noise? any suggestions? I tried putting rubber washers around some of the bolts connecting the door opener to the ceiling. Does not work (may help). Can i insulate the opener itself? Any ideas?

Is it a newer opener? older? If it is an older model, it may just be worn out. Belt driven models I believe are a lot more quiet than chain driven. Check to see if there is any loose or rattling parts on the interior. You may want to check out Home Depot or Lowes - they have models already installed so you can see if they are any more quiet than your opener...
