Looking for Yorkshire Pudding recipes

I've been looking to try my hand at making Yorkshire Puddings, but I haven't found a good recipe so far. Does anyone have a recipe that they use for making them that they'd like to share?

I made Yorkshire for years. I haven't for a year and am getting stupid. To the best of my memory:

Preheat oven to 450 F. With about five minutes before pouring the mixture below into a pan, throw the pan into the oven with a tablespoon of cooking oil, or better yet, pan drippings.

One cup flour One cup milk One or two eggs a pinch of salt

Mix until "almost" smooth, I use a fork, and pour the mixture into the smoking hot pan. Cook for thirty minutes. I use a 8"x8" steel baking pan to put the mixture into.

Now, I'll read down the thread to better replies. I used to be good at this.

Does tallow from a local butcher work?

It certainly should, better than cooking oil, but I don't speak from experience.

The idea of using rendered animal fat in cooking is repulsive to some people. OTOH, I had some pomme frites cooked in tallow and it was pretty tasty. I won't use animal fat in cooking but I suppose I don't mind eating the stuff.

Apparently potatoes roasted in duck or goose fat are amazing. May be it is my Anglo and European ancestry that exposed me to so many dinners where a large piece of meat was roasted in an oven and potatoes, carrots and onions were thrown into the pan to roast. It is not at all repulsive. Animal fat is an important component of the diet for people in a cold climate.

That's the problem - it's too hot here. Perhaps people in cold climes like to use their oven a lot i.e., heating up the kitchen is not a problem. Using the gas oven in our house was pretty unpleasant - it was a hot and humid place.

I hear you! In the summertime when the gas oven is going is like cooking in a foundry.   🥵

Thank goodness for toaster ovens, pressure cookers, air fryers, and crockpots. ~

Some old ones were terrible. Newer ones have much better insulation. I never notice mine. If used in combination with a top burner, I also have the hood vent going to extract the heat and lessen the AC load.

I used my air fryer in the garage the other day as it's hot here and we're dealing with forest fire smoke from Washington and some from BC.

In cold areas, a gas oven must be a great comfort as it supplies heat as well as a great amount of water vapor. At our family home, we have a gas range but most times, we use the Ninja Air Fryer for baking. The question is, is it cheaper to bake a cake using the big gas oven or, perchance to save money by using the small efficent electric Ninja? Aye, that's the rub.

What???? You're getting smoke from American wild fires? You should slap a tariff on goods imported from the US.

Yeah, using the oven in the winter is no problem and sometimes welcomed. But I have no idea about the efficiency of a countertop appliance when it comes to baking a cake vs. the full-size oven.

This shows some very interesting stats on fires on both sides of the border.

Here in Texas it definitely gets very hot and humid around this time of year.

Thanks. That chart deals with numbers of fires and it is interesting that there are 10 times as many in the US. However, it does not show the severity. Part of the problem is that a lot of our fires are in remote areas with no roads. It is hard to get men and equipment in to fight them.

FWIW Trump's recent asinine announcement about slapping a tariff on Canada for not doing enough to stop the fires came on the day after a Canadian firefighter died fighting a fire in Colorado.

Hold onto your hats. Things in BC could get worse. There are already a lot of fires

Trump is already pissed with us over the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge. Back in February he announced that he was not going to allow the opening until the US was compensated for the bridge. It was an entirely Canadian project. Canada paid the entire cost including the purchase of property on the US side and the using US labour and materials. By coincidence, a guy who donated $1 million to Trump's campaign opposed the bridge because it will cut into his profits from the Ambassador Bridge that he owns.

They finally agreed to open it July 27. We had an opening ceremony yesterday and now Trump is pissed that we didn't invite any Americans to participate. I guess we can expect another set of tariffs to be announced soon.

If yoose were a trained electrical engineer like Uncle, yoose would not be so ignorant on these matters. On technical matters, it is better to remain quiet and let Uncle handle it. After all, he knows everything, and he IS a Hiwayan. Yoose NOT.

I think dementia's creeping in and allowing his personality disorder to run wild. Somehow 39% of Americans can't see that and continue to support the increasingly unhinged conman.

It's 1939 all over again.

One of these days, I'll have an outdoor kitchen like primitive peoples and cheap production budget TV programs.
