I've had the bosch sander for 3 or 4 years, very tough... I have all but abused the tool at times and it's no worse. the VS is nice, but depending on what you're doing, it may be a bit large... a 3 x 21 might be better for furniture and the like.

Haven't used the Milwalkee or PC, but I'd buy the bosch again in a heartbeat.

Hope this helps.

He said 'better'. And if I can judge by my routers, Bosch is definately better than either of those home cheapo specials..

Better? Not sure. My Ryobi, although not known for quality, has stood thorugh 15 years of abuse, heavy use and it is still going strong. The size you mention will be tiring after 10 minutes of sanding. Sure you don't need a floor sander? A stationary sanding station?

Great tool, a bit on the heavy side though, it will tire you out. I use mine on wood and metal and it works great.

FWIW, Porter-Cable has made more sanders than anyone else in the field. Replaced my tired Craftsman machine with a P-C 4 x 24 VS a few weeks ago after a lot of research and spec checking. Got the graphite sanding pad for some special projects. Balance and belt tracking are top notch, and the large pad is great for avoiding divots. To complete my arsenal of sanding tools I did a spreadsheet spec check on random orbit sanders and ordered the P-C 97366. The only other real contender was the DeWalt, but it had limited speed range compared to the P-C. Nice to have American made tools as top choices these days. HTH
