Home warranty cost

Years ago I arranged for a family plan with the dentist. Did not pay for any of the services. Instead, just bought him a new Mercedes every year.

For a foreigner, you seem expert on all things USA.

Thanks for pushing yourself over the edge, Ed was right, bye.

Fat lot of good that will do you, f****it.

That fool doesn?t even notice the nym change.

That is very common. A lot of these things were "understood" to be true but not really documented. The package I got when I left includes a $900 subsidy for my Medicare part B and a $3000 HRA (per year, use or lose) but they are real picky about what they actually pay. I leave money on the table most years. It could stop tomorrow.

another nym just got plonked.

Ok, I'll tool over to the Post Office on a nice 32 C day and see who's wearing a sweater. Any sweater.

Cindy Hamilton

The sweater was likely taken by someone sorting mail. Those areas are neither visible nor accessible to the public.

Cindy Hamilton

How can I find someone in an area that is neither visible nor accessible to me?

"Hey, will you let me into the sorting room so I can see if anybody is wearing a pink sweater? And pay no attention to the fact that I'm carrying a shotgun. No need to call Security."

Cindy Hamilton

But they are under surveillance.

Back in the day when I worked for the Post Office Department (pre-USPS), there were viewing ports with one-way mirrors built along the ceiling lines so supervisors or postal inspectors could keep an eye on things. Tbey even had them in the bathroom.

These days, it's probably webcams...

Why? I don't live in Wayne County.

Cindy Hamilton

California changed that. Now if you want something less than $ 1000 just walk in and take it.

When I went to Zambia back in '73 about half my luggage went missing. After several trips back to the Lusaka airport I managed to get access to the baggage area and found some of what had been my luggage scattered in a storage room, and my tent behind the door in an office. (saw a flash of the didtinctive flourescent orange through the hinge gap of an open door) Without saying a word I just walked into the office, picked it up, and carried it out. I didn't retriedve everything, but I got a lot of it.

There are ways of getting into places "they" don't want you - more or less legally.

Also when I restored my old '53 dodge I had trouble getting the plates. They kept asking for more and different information - and I HAD to have the car mobile by the end of June '73 to go to Prince Edward Island for my "summer job" (for a few weeks after finishing teaching in June before leaving for Zambia). Finally I got word that the plates would be issued - and I still didn't get them. I finally went down to the vehicle licensing office in Furgusson Block in Toronto and straight out asked where my plates were. They said they had been issued several days before and must be stuck in the mail room. I asked "where is that?" and they gave me the address, then said "but you can't go there".

My answer was "watch me". Less than 10 miutes later I was in the mail room and asking where my plates that had been issued on whatever day it had been were - His first question in reply was "how did you get here?" - My reply was "Obviously I walked because you appear to have my plates". A little flustered he looked theough the stack in his out basket - and there was my package - second from the bottom of a pile of about 30. He said It was good I had come as they were a little busy, and they only shipped about 20 a day (off the top of the pile!!) It might have been another month before they were mailed - - - - .

I was having an issue with GEICO and my car insurance and no luck with them on the phone but it was one of my accounts and I had a computer room badge that would open any door in the building. I was there that night on a call and when the underwriter who would not return my calls got to work that morning, I was sitting at his desk. A couple minutes later my problem was resolved. I still dumped them.

Good for you.

(This reminds me of some slightly similar story in my own life, but I can't figure out what it is.)

What did they have to do? Just put a stamp on the envelope and send it? Probably didn't even need a stamp

No offense intended, but that looks like a $200 project. Everyone is different but I'm 100% sure my wife would tell me to rip it all out and start over.

I think one advantage of having insurance is that they have hammered out lower costs for various procedures than you will typically get if you walk in the door without insurance. So, even if you have to pay 50% of the cost, it could be 50% of a lower starting number too.

We had s***ty insurance for my wife (thanks Barry) and we found out if you just say "self pay" the cost is less than half of what they say it is supposed to cost. Our Obamacare never paid a dime in 2 years.
