Another article on this said that it's estimated that 70% of adults world-wide don't get enough vitamin-D.

My doctor says that no one gets enough, and he recommended 2000 IU per day. This is more than you can get from a multi-vitamin. You have to buy separate vitamin-D and if there is more D in a multi that you take, that's okay too.

Normal RDA = 600 iU ; 800 for seniors. My daily multi has 800 iU. My normal diet would likely contribute as much.

Makes a lot more sense to avoid getting infected instead of dealing with an infection.

The world is irrelevant, what matters is if you get enough of it.

Then he is a fool who doesn't have a clue.

Without any basis for that recommendation.

< more D in a multi that you take, that's okay too.

I came up short of vitamin D on a blood test. So, I take the pills.

Without the blood test results, I can't see how it makes sense to take a supplement. Your body only needs so much. Taking too much is harmful.

Nursing homes usually give the elderly residents a Vit. D supplement - not sure what dosage - but it seemed like standard procedure when my Mom was there. < and no - there were no extra fees involved >

The problem is that the blood test for that isnt reliable.

It can be when the blood test isnt reliable.

That’s less clear with this virus.

No it is not with the 2000 level.

They don't get outside much.

I supplement in the winter months but in the summer there is this thing called the sun. Being melanin challenged I can make plenty of my own.

And if you don't know, you can make a first guess based on the statement that 70% don't get enough. So the world does indeed matter.

I'm sure he's smarter than you are. Columbia University Medical School and 40 years of experience. What education do you have?

Of course he has a basis. He's seen my blood tests and he knows my habits.

What a set of stupid statements by you. This must be why I stopped reading your posts. I'll go back to ignoring them as soon as this thread is over.

No you cant given that most of the world isnt white and so don't get vitamin D from the sun so well and many of them wear a lot more clothes than those in the USA do in other than winter.

Nope.

He clearly isnt with that stupid claim that no one gets enough.

But stupid enough to make that stupid claim which has been proven to be wrong.

Better than his in fact.

Like hell he has.

No one who is white needs that much.

Easy to claim...

No one actually gives a flying red f*ck what you do or do not read.

You can allow for that, fool.

Yep

He was probably talking about Americans. And how many people in America, do you, with your great knowledge, think get enough?

Where was it proven wrong?

But not good enough to say what it is.

Who says I'm white? And what's the maximum a white person needs?

Easy to tell.

Of course you do or you wouldn't get so angry and so vulgar and when you claim you don't care.

"Winter"? I have not heard of this thing ;-)

Walking the dog and mowing the lawn probably gives me my RDA of sunshine but I am out a lot more than that. I do try to stay out of the direct sun when possible but that UVB is in indirect sunlight too.

For awhile, I was seeing a doctor who recommended Vitamin D (it should be D3) for a lot of things. I am currently taking it and it has helped (for example, less back pain and better sleep). It's noce to know about the additional benefit.

BTW, the highest strength I've found is 10,000IU. According to the information I have, you're unlikely to get too much unless you take

40,000IU a day for a month.

You would probably benefit from some. It takes a lot to be harmful (IIRC tens of thousands of IU daily).

No point. we know that many in the USA do get enough vitamin D even if that fool of a doctor claims that they don't.

Nope.

Even if he was, there are plenty of whites that would get enough exposure to the sun to end up with enough vitamin D

Irrelevant to his stupid claim that no one does.

In the USA,

Wrong again.

Depends on whether they spend any time in the sun etc.

Just another of your pathetic little drug crazed drunken fantasys.

I'm like that all the time, f****it.

It isnt a claim, it's a fact, f****it.

Good plan, when told something can be harmful and you can get a test to find out if you need it, go with "you could probably benefit".

Yes, I woke up sarcastic today. I can't remember back that far, but I was probably born with this condition.

That's when they fire up the smudge pots in the citrus groves so the crop doesn't freeze. It might not snow but I've frozen my ass off in Florida a times or two.
