Well, they do use it on TV equipment cabinets to hide the sometimes messy array of equipment without masking the IR beam. But, out of curiosity, I masked the beam of my TV remote successively with three pair of dark sunglasses and the thick base of a clear highball glass. None had any effect on the operation of the TV.
