Fixture with a Large Flange on Lap Siding (?)

How do the pro's (the good ones) handle the situation of mounting a light-fixture with a flange that is larger than a single lap? Do they just leave the gaps? Goop the heck out of it?

Go to an expensive neighborhood with some magazines to sell, and go door to door. While you're doing this, look at the lights.

Yep. Check out the link below - just the first few pics - - don't scroll down for the repair because it's a bit of a hack job also.

I think these good pros also used some duct tape to save goop. It's a good pro trick. John T.

Good find. Yes, that's the way it should be done. At the start. They messed it up later.

The home centers have adapters with cutouts to adjust for the siding. IDK if it works for all siding dimensions, but worth a look.
