Generally ants find the trash, or something that the kids left on the floor, but I am trying to find the weakness of the ants using boric acid.
When they find the crumbs in the trash or left by the kids, they form a trail to the spot in the wall or floor where they come from so I have a start-to-finish trail to finish them off.
If I kill all the workers (easily enough done) and remove the crumbs they found (also easily enough done), the queen will just make more ants (like potato chips) and they will find more crumbs (because, well, kids).
To poison the queen, I can easily make a paste of sugar, bread, boric acid and water (I don't think ants have salivary glands, do they?) that I can hide from the kids by shoving it into the cracks that I follow the ants to.
But if an ant lives for five to twenty years anyway, and if the colony carries on without the queen, then what have I accomplished by killing the one queen (assuming it's the type of ant that has only one queen).
Do these common usa tiny (1mm) house kitchen ants have a weakness?
