You know, it's only July 10 at 9:01PM and it's already darker out than it was on July 4 at 9:10.

Apparently they were telling me the truth in 7th grade science. Who knew?

Sunset here is about 20 minutes from now although it will get dark early because of a cloud bank.

Go up north somewhere near the arctic circle and be prepared to have your mind blown. The sun doesn't set in the summer. It is just hanging there in the northern sky.

Sometimes the sun does set, but not until next day.

I spent a year in AK, about 100 miles north of Nome. Our shortest daylight was about 2 hours. The sun would come up, barely clear the horizon and then start to set. The shortest nights would still have some glow along the horizon.

With zero light pollution, the Northern Lights were a sight to behold. We'd lay on the beach listening to the Bering Strait lap the shoreline for hours, just watching the lights dance overhead.

This stuff really happens...

On my last flight out, the plane made a stop-over in Kotzebue. They let everyone get off of the plane so we could say "I've set foot above the Artic Circle."
