I have miter saw in the basement. Can I cut metal stock w/it if I purchased a metal cutting blade ?

Thanks

Yes but the metal filings may be tough on a precision miter saw. I have a purpose built 14" chop saw for that. There are no critical tolerances in it. If you sealed up the rotating parts well and were not cutting much it will work. Do it outside. That decaying abrasive blade throws nasty stuff. Wear your real respirator, not your covid mask.

The saw is 10". I see two types of Metal cutting blades for sale. Abrasive and Steel (probably w/Insert teeth). What would be best for small stock ( < 1.5") ?

What materials and thicknesses we talking about here?

If you use the saw for precision woodworking, getting it filled with metal chips could be a problem or at least a nuisance...

I do on the rare occasion for light brass or Al stock for like a dowel hinge pin or a pull, but reserve the abrasive saw for virtually everything else...of course, if one doesn't have anything else.

Like virtually all cases, if it's much or more than some very light stuff you might consider the HF option of an inexpensive metal cutoff saw at about the same cost point or only a little more...

Sparks from cutting metal can set sawdust on fire.

That is a cheap and dirty answer, usually all an occasional user needs. This is what I have with an abrasive blade but I got it in a garage sale for $20-30 without the blade.
