heat exchanger

My 2005 Lennox heat exchanger has a small hole in it and needs to be replaced, the part is under warranty but the labor to install is not covered, I was quoted 983.00 . I was told by the service technician that the job would take four hours and then told by the scheduler that it would require two technicians and that 983.00 would be correct. Is this a fair price, it seems extremely high to me, Your input please.

The time and labor sound about right, its not usually an easy job.

That depends on where you live and the current labor rates of the company. You should get more than one quote on this. The price you stated comes out to approx. $122.50 hour per man.It is possile they are using a flat rate pricing guide which many companies are using now. You can go to

and input your zip code in the box at the top right of the website and see if there are other Lennox dealers near you to get a quote from. Our rate would be $650.00 to change the heat exchanger. Hope this helps

Getting the right tech to work on your furnace is a big deal. You should get a carbon monoxide tester while you're at it.

or just go to Amazon and get one for cheap.

StanHVAC1 is right...compare pricing. Research the contractor too, and don't just trust online reviews. See if they have NATE certification, etc. Another site to check is

They do charge dealers to be listed, but instead list the elite in an area.
