Why does my stove burner knob make the kitchen lights flicker?

So I was just in the kitchen trying to get some water boiling and noticed something really weird with my electric range. Every time I turn the front right knob to start the burner, the indicator light kicks on like normal, but I swear the overhead light in the kitchen flickers or dims for a split second. It's an older model stove, maybe from the early 2000s, and I’m wondering if this is a sign of a bad switch or maybe something weird with the wiring in my apartment. The burner doesn't even seem to be getting that hot yet, but the light response is instant. I’ve got some stuff sitting on the counter near it and another appliance cord resting near the burner, so I really don't want to leave it on if there's a short circuit happening. Is it possible for a stove to pull that much power just from turning the dial? I'm worried it might be a fire hazard since I can't tell if it's supposed to happen or if something is loose behind the control panel. Just want to make sure I don't burn the house down while making dinner.

Totally agree with the dropped leg diagnosis. I've seen this exact 'voodoo' happen more than a few times. One small thing to check while you're waiting for the pro: take a quick look at the range cord plug itself if you can reach it safely. Sometimes those older 3-prong or 4-prong NEMA plugs get a loose connection right at the wall receptacle, and the heat from a heavy load like a stove burner can actualy melt the plastic enugh to break contact on one of the hot pins. Update: So I checked and it’s happening with my dryer too, so that 'dropped leg' idea sounds spot on. I looked at the main pull-out block like suggested and there’s definatly some discoloration on one of the copper tabs. Is this somthing my landlord can fix easily, or does the power company need to come out to check the meter?
