Secure outdoor hanging hooks

May 03, 2021 Last reply: 5 years ago 3 Replies

I have a number of bird feeders, suspended from beams using the traditional open eyed (shepherds crook) hanging hooks. Uneaten food falls from the feeders and lands on the concrete. This is eaten by pigeons. However, a startled pigeon will often knock a feeder off. The only secured hanging hook I could find is from the USA and the shipping adds about £18. Anyone know of a UK alternative. Regards Paul.

Use a vine eye.

Secure the feeder with a zip tie.

Alternatively use a small clip to clip into the vine eye if you want to be able to remove the feeder very frequently.

Hanging people for feeding birds sounds a little extreme....

How about a cheap Carabiner attached to a Vine eye?

Thanks David and Adrian, that's brilliant. Local Toolstation sells both. There's not much weight involved, so will probably get some cheapon carabiners in ally. Thanks again.
