Car problem

Hi we tried posting on UK.Diy.Car. The lights are on but nobody's at home :)

Any ideas on this one, a ford escort 1600 16v zetec "P" reg. runs ok at speed but when you pull away in 1st gear it takes what seems like a couple of seconds before you start moving. Sometimes it feels like it's missing but that's in all gears. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers

Sounds like the clutch is slipping. If it doesn't slip after a second or two, even if you pull hard in a high gear, then it seems as though the mechanism is jamming and taking time to allow the clutch to engage when you take your foot off the pedal.
