B&Q Privacy Set Part II

Hi

ok i now have the holes cut in test board and the out door handle keeps coming off. there are 2 screws to hold on the inner door handle (just like conventional door knobs), however the outer door handle has no screws, it slides over the latch mechanism and works the latch but if you close the door you end up with the door knob in your hand!

Sounds like a bolt-through knobset. Are there threaded holes on the inside of the outer handle?

Hi

yes the outer handle has 2 long threaded studs that go thru the main lock assembly and 2 machine screws that fit this.

i wondered what this did but as there is no mention of them on the instructions and putting the screws in did nothing i decide to as here for help.

The machine screws very probably hold the inner and outer handles together, clamping each to its respective side of the door (or your test wood).

Hi Mark

i found the machine screws do as you say on my test wood. it looked like it was impossible to get a screw driver in but i can just. thanks for your help.

Success! although i used a 56mm hole cutter which is a bit close as it chipped the edge of the hardboard on the doors but light sanding and paint covered that up.
