what brand is my heat pump model number ghgd36s21s1

It's a part number of a 13 SEER / 11 EER split-system heat pump manufactured by York - the Johnson Controls company.

Cool.  just had it installed but didn't pay attention to the brand.  I think they said it was a york brand, now that you mention it.  its a 13 seer/8.5 and its a 3 ton.  would you know if this unit comes with a txv valve?

 I believe TXV valve is an option for this HP. Check your paperwork, see if it lists a 1TVMxxx series kit - that's the TXV valve accessory kit from York.

You could take a side of the indoor coil cabinet off - this TXV valve kit installs inside the coil, between the legs of the "A"  - and check if it's there (see picture attached below).
