Having ripped half my mouth open on a washing line as a kid I can tell you that you don't avoid them if they are there. They are impossible to see and you sure as hell can't hear them.

If your dipped lights illuminate 400 yards away I suggest you get them adjusted.

There is a big glass and plastic housing at the top of those steel poles where radio signals work quite well.

About ten years ago I put forward a proposal for data access by putting radio and/or IR transceivers in the lamp housings and offered lamp control and monitoring as an inducement to get them fitted. You can a mesh running down the street and picked up the service with a box on the houses. It was decided not to invest in it.

God, lost count of how many of the things I have hit. Partridge and pigeons too..and bunnies.

One phaasant hit with a hell of a thump and I thought 'dinner' and stopped ..but couldnt find it.

I did 3 weeks later when I washed the car. Rammed into the radiator grille.

Or it could mean that illumination encourages more crime than it discourages.
