Which Combi System

I did say that they may have improved, and according to you they have. However, it doesn't alter the fact that the earlier products were definitely junk - this I know from first hand experience.

Given a bad experience and a company with a poor reputation and only your word to go on, I would have difficulty in deciding for their newer products.

After all, you have just suggested using two combis in a mid sized terraced house....

He is not buying your old boiler.

I am no amateur like you. Glow Worm were bought out by Hepworth, who were bought out by Vaillant. Much of their parts are Vaillant.

And quite rightly so too. A cost effective solution for hgigh florate and zoned heating. Read what I write, understand it, if you can of course, and apply it.

Read my post on Glow Worm. Regarding Skoda. If you want to spend 1000s more for inferior cars than the Skoda, that is your choice.

This has never been established.

To what? The Observer's Book of Harebrained Schemes?

It has. You are an amateur.

And I bought some teak oil yesterday.

As an amateur, you would not know the difference between a harebrained or brilliant scheme if you fell on one.

I have never claimed otherwise; the implication of which is that you claim, but have never been able to demonstrate, that you are in some way professional. When asked, you always evade the issue.

Really? When all the shops were shut?

You must be incredibly naive. *Everybody* can see that it is the former.

Twin combies is a concept that would have occurred to me about as readily as ..er..spanner flavoured ice-cream. Anyway. I am after selling this house as soon as I've brought it up tp spec so 2 combies is an expense I will avoid. But when we move, 2 combies will go on the list of things to fo.

Thanks to everyone.

And just out of interest, do the upmarket new-builds (eg. 300K - 400K) usually have 2 combies?

Arthur.

Crikey - where do you live? Round here it was like any other Sunday.

No - instant water heaters above every sink and washbasin are the way to go these days. Much easier to install. And they hold up the trunking for the forced ventilation system that all up market houses have in IMM land.

I don't evade it, I say I am a professional.

I have never evaded anything at all. I always say, I am a professional. That is simple.

There everyone you refer to are DIYers, like yourself. As I say "you would not know the difference between a harebrained or brilliant scheme if you fell on one".

Before I put this combi in I only had an immersion heater, nothing else. I'm sure there are many ways of reheating a cylinder quickly, but I don't see that saving a couple of minutes when filling a bath is such an important task that setting up a (possibly more expensive) system is worth the time and effort.

I'm just saying that the combi is good enough for us.

Combi's are good enough for most too. Around 1 million boilers are fitted in the UK each year. Combi's are approaching 70% of them. Combi's will soon be the "traditional" boiler.

And say others are amateurs.

Even the Prime Minister can have his 'words' questioned. You must be God.

Reply to

Of course not. Either one large one, a mains pressure cylinder or a conventional cylinder.

Mike

Here is this Plowman giving you advise on CH..read on...

This what he wears, yes he does...he said... "Well, I got a rather flash pair of DeWalt boots from TLC, so there.;-)"

Sad isn't it. Big yellow boots.

He also attempts to give advise and criticise views "Mine managed over 10 years without being touched before it needed a clean. 'Sooting up' once it starts, happens very quickly."

He didn't have his gas boiler serviced for over 10 years, and knows all the answers he thinks. Only in the Internet.

Best ignore them.

Everything in this world is a choice.

And, indeed, for many. But it's as well to be aware of its shortcomings. To install a combi that gives the flow rate of hot water comparable to a decent storage system might well cost rather more overall. You have to really compare like for like.

Dave Plowman

Gosh. That's convincing.
