Screwfix Deliveries

It's been a while since I ordered stuff from Screwfix for delivery as they now have a local depot .I ordered yesterday afternoon and it is still showing as "In Progress" It used to be that it was sent the day of ordering and received the next day but I do remember that you couldn't always rely on what it said in the Order History .

Has anyone any recent experience of ordering from them .Have orders arrived Next Day?

Just realised that I was using an old e-mail address for Screwfix so have now found an e-mail saying that the order was packed and shipped yesterday so hopefully ( but not definitely) I'll get it today Stuart

The message from snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com contains these words:

They've changed their delivery arrangements more than once over the last few years.

At one point we had to place them on our list of "nn-preferred" suppliers because they switched to carriers who seem to imagine that the top 25% of the UK mainland is in fact an island and carriage charges should be on that basis.

I assume they lost so much business over that decision that they have now revised their arrangements. As I pointed out in one of my communications to them, the logical answer, if they were not prepared to equalise carriage costs over the whole country, or at least over the mainland, then they should work with a larger minimum order for "free" carriage in "remote" areas -- which is what they now do.

I ordered one of their Makita circular saws (special offer) on Monday late morning, it arrived lunchtime on Tuesday. It said FedEx on the box, but it was just a white van that delivered. Always been very pleased with their deliveries. David

My favourite game was to order lamps and see how many actually arrived in one piece - not many. On one occasion they even 'bent' fluorescent tubes to fit in the delivery box. In general all liquid items were delivered upside down and with the tins full of dents where the packers had been trying very hard to break them - but the postie usually had a b' good go too, as nearly all boxes come upside down and with the corners all buckled. Tubs of swarfega have come with (unordered) manhole lifting spikes stuck through them. And on...

Still can't just blame screwfix, cos a box full of hard drives I ordered from Amazon also had the boxes individually bashed on the corners and then the whole boxed package was bashed again for good measure. Ah the wonders of having a 'competitive' postal system! [In case you wondered, the hard drives all worked, thanks to the wonders of modern inertial packaging inside the individual boxes, and certainly despite the best efforts of the deliverers.]

I really got concerned for Screwfix and tried to point out all the money they were losing through this vandalism, but I expect it is still the same.

Of course it is. But think of all the replacement items you can get from them for those damaged (but salvageable) items.

It's a bugger for me too, as I spend a lot of time in Northern Ireland. DHL and other carriers delivering to off the UK mainland is painfully expensive, even though we are still in the UK.

The only time I've not had a Screwfix delivery turn up the next day, they phoned me up and told me that it wouldn't be arriving until the day after. (I can't remember if they phoned the day I ordered or the next day.)

However, in this instance I was a bit annoyed because what they actually said was that _half_ my order wouldn't arrive the next day but the rest would arrive as normal. In fact neither half turned up until the next day.

I have placed a large number of orders over the last 2 years with Screwfix while renovating my house. Next day delivery reliability has been excellent - though some of the credit goes to the local Parcelforce driver who is excellent and always finds someone to take a parcel in if necessary - and the very few problems I've had have been sorted out very quickly over the phone with no hassle.

You seem to have more than your share of bad luck .....I order quite a lot of Internet stuff and havent had anywhere like that sort of result . This sort of think below sounds "unbelievable" How do they bend fluo tubes and as for the tins being bashed by the packers ....in my experience of Screwfix the boxes they use are extremely large and any extra space is taken up by cardboard glued down on top to stop the goods moving around ...

I received an email offering a 'wet and dry' vac for £49.99 instead of £79.99. Went to the local Screwfix Shop and it was £79.99 . Ordered online with something else just to bring it over the £50 free del. threshold.

Wouldn't it have made sense for the shop to have let me have it at the online price thus saving Screwfix a delivery?
