Repair of molding on picture frame

i have an old frame that has some of the 'plaster' decoration fallen away and i need to make it good again before re-gilding. what is the correct formula for making up some white putty type filler to repair it ? proffesional type repair and not just some pollyfilla ! as i need to shape it to a fine degree .

i seem to recall its like rosin and plaster plus plus ??

Hi, Serial#@@@@@ (catchy handle!)

Not an expert in this field, but I gess you mean "gesso" (Bad pun or bad spelling?). It's a mixture of plaster-of-paris and glue. Ish.

Do a Google search on "gesso recipe" and it will overwhelm you with good information.

Best of luck,

Frank.

Gesso. Rabbit skin glue and whiting. You can also buy it ready-mixed. Comes in white, or tinted yellow or red. If you're gilding straight onto it, you might want the coloured stuff.

Liberon sell all the bits, and the ready-mix in large or small quantities.
