Rec.woodworking is a tame little country village in the wide world of usenet newsgroups. Every once in a while some undesirable is going to drive through. In this instance the problem child probably posted from rec.games.pinball. Gandalf Parker and myself are posting from alt.support.diet.low-carb. The original person to blame is the "Ron Grossi" cretin who keeps posting the same diatribe to bunches of newsgroups at a time. These groups (the alt and rec hierarchy) are not moderated. Most ISPs do not yank accounts for language. If they did the internet would have died long ago. If language is really that upsetting to you and your wife, you may be more comfortable in a moderated setting:

One guy I know solved such a problem differently. He called Ford fleet delivery and ordered a dark blue Crown Vic with the police package. Then he parked it in front of his house. Nobody wanted to buy drugs when there was a cop watching. This damaged the drug trade sufficiently that they relocated.

Thank-you for your kind words.....but I want to share a story with you. Years ago I lived in downtown Indianapolis in a "turn-around" neighborhood. As you drove down our street you would drive past 15-20 nice well-kept homes and then there was the burnt out vacant eye-sore. A drug house and gang moved into our neighborhood. Some familys just left, the easy thing to do. The rest of us decided to stay,( some familys had to stay), they had no econmic chooses. We were able to get the police, the city, the churches, and even the Govenor involved. We also started a block club and a crime watch program. We closed the drug house, the city bulldozed it, and now there is a beautiful flower garden on that lot. Today this is a nice neighborhood. The value of homes are now doubled from the old days. My POINT is: I should not have to leave this neighborhood because I find nasty language offensive. I beliueve that it is all of our jobs to clean it up and make it safe for our familys. Good luck and let us all keep trying. Mike

---------- Town of Centinnial, Wyoming took an old junker, painted it like a police car, a couple of red painted coffee cans on top. Dummy inside car, in police uniform.

Tourists going through town SLOW way down when they see the car.

--------- I make it my rule to not waste my time talking to those that don't respect my opinion enough to show me respect. When someone calls me names, or curses in conversation with me, I warn them. If they continue, they go into my killfile.

If we all start doing that, the offensive behavior will stop having any effect on us, even if it continues.
