Find some one to RESTORE it !!!! NOT REFINISH it. Talk to possible candidate and if they mention stripping or sanding, RUN !!!! Restoration means keeping the look of an old piece not something fresh off the showroom floor. Restoring should not cost much more and will result in a piece that looks old but loving taken care of and may even have some of the dings left. Demand to see some of his work. While the table may be valuable the sentimental value is much higher. Actually often restoring is cheaper because the original finish is not removed. I know of an excellent person in the Dallas, Texas area.
