Hitachi M12V router review

I ordered the router from Amazon Dec 19 for $135 with the free shipping and received it on the 24th via Fed Express. I wasn't expecting it before the 25th so we had an extra gift under the tree. Packaging was excellent with no damage. It came with the accessory kit which included a 1/2 inch carbide bit, edge guide, template guides for both Hitachi & I assume P.C. styles, a 1/4 sleeve adaptor, and the fine adjustment knob kit. It runs great with more power than I'll need and is considerably quieter than my 1hp Crapsman, on the slower speeds you probably wouldn't need ear protection. No power switch problems as others have had. The 1/4 inch sleeve held tight for me but I noticed there is only one way to install it so it lines up with the slots in the router chuck. The soft start ramps up quickly but it is still is gentle on the wrists. The only problem I have is the plunge feature binds quite badly, especially when retracted. I have never used a plunge router before, but I don't think this would be acceptable if it didn't loosen up and you did plan on using that feature. Considering the price, and that I will be using it mainly in a table, (as soon I get a new one built), I think I'll be very happy with it.

A little oil on the plunge tubes will take care of the binding. Some manufacturers (Dewalt, for example) say not to lubricate the tubes. But the M12V manual says to lubricate.
