With batteries, the most useful easy comparison is by weight, not necessarily volume.

The best way to get your battery tools away from the workshop, is to get an 12 to 110V inverter for you car. Depending on the whats they produce, they start at less that $29.

I forgot to mention there's a 120V inverter available to connect to power tool batteries. It probably won't run things for very long, but could be a nice companion for Dremel tools or soldering irons, where you don't need to run them for more than a few minutes.
