Would you call this a 'bodge' ?

Hi Folks,

The bloke next door to a mate has had an extension stuck on the side of his house. The pitched roof was extended over the new extension (it was, honest ) with a new 'hip' (is that what they call the slopey bit on the end?).

Looking at it it would appear that they have used 'ridge' tiles on the hip, so they seem to stick up more than needed?

Did the builders do this because "you can't get the lower profile ones any more" (often an answer to such questions), they didn't know there were different angles or they simply didn't have the right ones on the truck so couldn't be bothered?

I don't know what you are talking about - is it a hipped roof or not?

Any decent builder will use the proper stuff. There's a wide variety available, albeit much of it is "concrete".

Hi 'Jerry', not being an architect, builder or roofer I'm not exactly sure what it's called? Imagine a std semi house roof (slopes front and back) and the end tapers down like the front and back? The 'ridge' that goes from the top to the house corner .. is that called a 'hip' (it was just something I heard mention). ;-)

This was probably pretty stock red concrete roof tiles with matching sort of 'rough finished' (not red-smooth like on my slate roof) ridge 'tiles' (if that's what you call the rounded things on the top of the ridge .. 'tiles' ?)

It just looks like they have used the same pattern down the diags as the ridge and that looks different to all the houses around it?
